Ganjam man dies of Covid-19, Odisha toll up to 10

BHUBANESWAR: A 55-year-old man of Ganjam district died of Covid-19, raising the death toll due to the virus infection to 10 in the state. The number of positive cases jumped to 3498 as 112 more tested positive.
“Regret to report the death of a Covid-19 positive 55-year-old male of Ganjam, while under treatment in hospital. Cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome,” the health department said. It was the fifth Covid-19 death in Ganjam.
Family sources said the man was hospitalised on June 2. He died on Wednesday.
The new positive cases include 21 fire services personnel. With this, the number of rescue personnel who tested positive after returning from post-Amphan restoration works in West Bengal to 136.
The other positive cases are from 18 districts including 15 from Puri, eight from Khurda and six from Ganjam, among others. Bhubaneswar city reported two new positive cases including an employee of a private hospital. The total positive cases in Bhubaneswar rose to 103. The state capital has 40 active cases.
The health department said another 120 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged on Friday. They include Ganjam (30), Khurda (19), Balasore (14), Balangir (12), Dhenkanal (9), seven each from Nayagarh and Sundargarh, six from Angul, five from Keonjhar, four each from Jagatsinghpur and Puri besides one each from Deogarh, Kendrapara and Jharsuguda.
Those recovered in Ganjam include 15 ‘Corona warriors’ who had got positive during duty in temporary medical centres where people are quarantined.
The total recovered cases of Odisha now stand at 2474. The state’s recovery rate stands at 70.72%.
