Headless body of woman found in Bhubaneswar
BHUBANESWAR: An unidentified woman was found murdered in Dasapur in the state capital on Thursday. Her headless body was found lying on a desolate stretch of the Bharatpur-Chandaka road in the wee hours of the morning. A blood-stained knife, surgical gloves, syringes and an empty liquor bottle were found near the body.
“We have registered a case of murder. Efforts are on to ascertain her identity and trace her dismembered head,” the deputy commissioner of police, Uma Shankar Dash, said. He added that a communication has been sent to police stations across the state to verify the cases, relating to the missing of women, in the recent past.
A few passers-by spotted the body and informed the police immediately. The police suspect the accused might have killed the woman on the roadside as the crime scene was covered in a pool of blood.
“Based on the prima facie investigation, we suspect she was killed on the roadside. The accused must have dumped her head elsewhere. The forensic experts have collected evidence from the crime scene for examination,” another police officer said.
The police have collected her fingerprints to verify with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as to whether she was issued an Aadhaar card. Her body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain if she was subjected to sexual assault, the police said.
Locals said the woman did not belong to their area. “We have spoken with the residents of the nearby localities. No woman had gone missing from their localities. We suspect the accused might have killed the woman at another place and dumped her body near our village,” Rajat Pradhan, a resident of Andharua near Chandaka, said.
It must be noted, the beheaded body of a woman of Satyabadi area in Puri district was found in Chandaka area in December 2018. The woman was killed by an acquaintance of her over previous enmity and dumped in Chandaka area.
