MBBS counselling in Odisha to begin soon
BHUBANESWAR: After the NEET results for admission to undergraduate medical courses were declared on Monday, official sources said online counselling for seats in Odisha will begin soon. Admission will be conducted for 1450 MBBS seats in Odisha this year, up from 1350 last year.
The newly established medical college in Puri will provide an additional 100 seats. Odisha has eight state-run and two private medical colleges with 1,450 seats, besides 500 seats of two deemed-to-be universities. While Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities hold counselling for the 10 medical colleges (including two private ones), the deemed-to-be universities have a separate arrangement for admission to their 500 MBBS seats.
The SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, and the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, have 250 MBBS seats each, while the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Education and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, has 200 seats. Similarly, the medical colleges in Koraput and Baripada have 125 MBBS seats each, while the ones in Balangir, Balasore and Puri have 100 seats each.
“The Sri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital in Puri is scheduled to conduct admission this year, but a letter from the government regarding participation in medical counselling is yet to come. After we get the permission, we will conduct admission this year,” said an official of the directorate of medical education and training (DMET).
The medical council committee under the Union ministry of health and family welfare will issue notification on seat allotment process for the all-India quota. Students who qualified in the NEET UG 2021 can take part in the counselling process.
