Met predicts temp fall by 2 to 3C
Bhubaneswar: Daringbadi in Kandhamal district shivered at 7 degrees Celsius on Monday as the night temperature witnessed a gradual drop at several places in the state for the past two days.
The India Meteorological Department report said that Titlagarh at 9.3°C saw a sharp fall by 3.2°C compared to the normal. Similarly, the city at 12.9°C, were two degrees below normal.
Dense fog reducing visibility to 200 metres also prevailed over isolated places in four districts — Gajapati, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Bolangir.
The IMD forecast said a similar drop in minimum temperature would continue in the state for the next two-three days. Minimum temperature during this period would very likely to be below normal by 2-3°C at a few places in the state, said a bulletin issued by the IMD. Thereafter, minimum temperature would rise gradually by 2-3°C in the state.
H R Biswas, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre in the city, said minimum temperature saw a drop by 1-3°C at some places in the last 24 hours. He said a rise in night temperature is again expected by January 7. The city will also witness a similar rise in temperature in the next two-three days, he added.
Former director of the regional IMD centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu, said chances of rise in both day and night temperatures were likely this week due to a western disturbance from January 5.
Similarly, chances of rain and thunderstorm due to the western disturbance would continue from January 8 to 12 or 13 in western, northern and coastal pockets, said Sahu. He further warned that there are chances of heavy rainfall for three days from January 10 to 12.
