NIT Rourkela alumni, students develop videoconferencing tool
BHUBANESWAR: A group of 15 comprising alumni and students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela and members of a start-up company has developed a videoconferencing tool ‘MyOrg360’ for companies, educational institutions and other organisations. During the coronavirus lockdown period, many people cannot gather at a place to hold meetings, but they can meet online by using this videoconferencing tool’s link.
Developers of this application claimed that this tool works like Zoom app for videoconferencing purpose. “The government and other companies have raised eyebrows on a particular videoconferencing app’s lack of data security measures but our application is purely developed by Indians and do not compromise with security of the users’ data,” said Abhijeet Sahoo, member of the team.
He said that they have developed a closed application to protect the data. “If any company asks us to provide them the service, we will send links to their admins. The latter will send links to his/her colleagues and hold videoconferencing. Except the admins, others cannot send the links and invite for the online meetings. Even the hackers cannot hack it easily as they do it with other apps. We have not opened it for public use. It is for the individuals or groups or organisations who want to purchase it for them,” he added.
Sahoo said the students and teachers can take benefit from this platform as this videoconferencing tool allows 1,000 users at a time. The users can record the audio and use it later. They can also share notes on this platform. “We have the best security features for the application. Users can access it through Google Chrome. It also has artificial intelligence based fraud detection facility,” he added.
Another member, R Munik said they have developed this with the help of 10 NIT Rourkela alumni and five students. Most of the alumni are the members of a start-up called ‘Fastech Fashions’. “We realised that an Indian online platform for videoconferencing is much needed. We cannot rely on foreign applications for our government related matters. It will help many educational institutions, government offices and other companies for meetings, discussions, teaching and learning programmes. Some organisations have given positive feedback about our application,” he added.
