Odisha administers over 4 crore Covid-19 vax doses
Odisha on Friday achieved the milestone of administering more than 4 crore (40,071,211) doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha on Friday achieved the milestone of administering more than 4 crore (40,071,211) doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
It took 44 days for the state to reach the 4-crore mark from the day it completed administration of three crore doses. On an average, 2.27 lakh doses have been administered in the past 44 days. The number of people, who have received at least the first dose, thus went up to 2.67 crore.
The cumulative figure of 4 crore suggests that Odisha is short by a little over two crore doses from fully vaccinating its eligible population of 18 years and above. The state has 3.25 core eligible beneficiaries for which it will require 6.5 crore doses.
Bijay Panigrahi, director, family welfare, said: “We have kept up the vaccination pace as planned. The number of second dose recipients on a given day is double that of the first dose beneficiaries. At present, we have a stock of 45 lakh doses.” He said about 41 per cent out of the eligible population have been inoculated with both the doses.
“Vaccine consignments are reaching here before the stock gets exhausted. So there is no problem meeting the daily planned dosage target. By the end of December, we want to complete at least the first dose of vaccination for all. So far the number of people who have at least received the first dose is 2,672,538,” Panigrahi added.
In the 18-44 age group, 22,242, 874 have received the vaccine of whom 20,062,136 are men. Out of the total doses administered so far, 35,268,138 doses are of Covishield. Ganjam district has moved past Khurda in terms of cumulative doses administered. While Ganjam till Wednesday administered 41,02,121 doses, Khurda’s total stood at 36,83,763. Deogarh is the lone district whose second dose vaccination count is yet to cross the 1-lakh mark.
The state had administered 1,77,140 doses at 2,092 sites on Friday till the time of filing the report. On Friday, the state reported 263 new Covid cases from 66,533 samples tested, registering a total positivity rate of 0.39 per cent. Ten districts didn’t report a single Covid infection while Khurda added 129 new cases. The capital city reported 94 new cases.
