Odisha: ‘Ama Police’ programme held in Puri to connect police with public
BHUBANESWAR: The Puri Police have conducted ‘Ama Police’ programme in the district to develop good relation with public. In the programme, police have decided to form Sahi (street) committees in Puri town to stay in touch with the people.
Kanwar Vishal Singh, Puri SP, while addressing the police and public interface at Hatishala under Baseli Sahi police station in Puri town said Ama Police programmes will be organised in those areas where abnormal criminal cases are being reported. Stringent action will be taken against criminals under the Zero Tolerance programme, he added.
The SP said the police will not give any chance to criminals to commit any crime. “Public should think that police personnel are their friends. Without any fear, they should cooperate with the police to control crime in the district. Anti-Crime Control Drive started by the police will help in this field,” he added.
Senior police officers present in the meeting said people should inform the police if anybody demands extortion money. “Senior citizens should not come to the police station. Police personnel of the local police station will visit the senior citizens after getting a phone call. We will form Sahi Committees and create WhatsApp groups to stay connected with the people. Sahi people can directly contact the senior policemen if they want,” said a police officer.
The police have opened a single window system for senior citizens. The SP has provided senior citizen identity cards to five people. He stated that police will show friendly behaviour with the common people. Ama Police programmes will be conducted in a regular manner to stay connected with the public, said the police officer.
