Odisha CM lays foundation stone for 55 new bus stands

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday laid foundation stone for 55 bus stands in 22 districts of the state in virtual mode. It will provide a major boost to rural connectivity.
Official sources said these bus stands will be set up at block levels taking into account several factors like distance from district headquarters, economic activity, places of tourist interest, existing communication facility and other factors.
Naveen said this will connect the rural people of the state with better communication infrastructure and benefit them to a great extent. The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) has been connecting Odisha and all its major regions through its fleet of buses, he added.
The chief minister expressed happiness over constant innovation and improvement in the quality of service that has been provided by the OSRTC to the people of Odisha, many of whom depend on buses for economic, educational as well as recreational purposes.
Among others, transport minister Padmanabha Behera, chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, secretary to chief minister (5T) V K Pandian, principal secretary of commerce and transport Madhu Sudan Padhi, ministers, MPs, MLAs, district collectors and transport officials were present at district level programmes.
