Odisha Electronics Policy gets cabinet nod

BHUBANESWAR: To promote the electronics and electronics manufacturing sector in the state, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved the Odisha Electronics Policy-2021, the first such policy in the state.
“The policy has been conceptualized to position Odisha as an attractive destination for the electronics industry by providing a congenial, industry friendly and proactive industrial climate with class leading infrastructure, supporting facilities and policy initiatives,” said state electronics and IT secretary Manoj Mishra.
The policy aims to promote innovation in the electronics sector and augment availability of skilled manpower with focus on fostering a culture of research, innovation and entrepreneurship by building an ecosystem of interlinked academia-industry-professional-leaders and to ensure growth of MSMEs, said Mishra.
It assures fixed capital investment subsidy ranging from Rs 10 crore to Rs 250 crore to electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) units. Besides, it also guarantees production-linked incentives.
The policy also offers incentives in other areas like power, land, assistance to women entrepreneurs and persons with disabilities and incentives for local enterprises. Others benefits assured by the policy include green and self-power generating incentive and reimbursement of state GST.
A committee headed by the state chief secretary will be formed to monitor its implementation, said official sources.
In another major decision, the state cabinet also approved a proposal to amend the industrial policy resolution-2015 to provide special incentives to “new-age mega industries” like automobile manufacturing, green energy, electronics and telecommunication equipment manufacturing units, textile, apparel, wearable and luggage units, pharmaceuticals, capital goods, aerospace and defence manufacturing units.
“Since these sectors have immense potential to contribute towards the economic and social development of the country, the amendment has been made. This amendment in IPR will attract the aforesaid category of mega investments to the state with investment ranging from Rs 300 crore to Rs 1000 crore by each unit,” said an industry department official.
The Odisha Artisan Grade Stone Policy, 2021 also received cabinet nod that aims to ensure demand-supply estimation, identification of stone sources, extraction and supply of stone to artisan users of different categories. It will also prevent illegal artisan grade stone mining in the state and motivate the artisans to continue their tradition.
