Odisha govt sanctions 14 new cyber police stations
BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Tuesday sanctioned the establishment of 14 new cybercrime police stations at different places, including one each in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. At present, the state has only four cyber police stations, one each in Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur.

Apart from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the new cyber police stations will come up at Keonjhar, Angul, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Balangir and Kandhamal.
Total 154 executive posts (inspectors, SIs, ASIs and constables) have been created for all the cyber police stations. Besides, the government has sanctioned 6 posts of experts (2 IT analysts, 3 finance/accounts analysts and 2 cyber forensic analysts) for each cyber police station.
Sources said the police have also planned to set up a state-level body to oversee the functioning and performance of the the cyber police stations in the state. An IG-ranked officer will head the proposed cybercrime investigating agency.
At least 779 cybercrime cases have been registered across the state from January 1 until May 31 this year. Cybercrime offences increased by an alarming 31% in Odisha in 2020 as compared to 2019. The Odisha Police records revealed altogether 1,931 cybercrime cases were registered last year as against 1,475 in 2019.
