Odisha: Man arrested for raping girl, making her pregnant
KENDRAPADA: A 28-year-old man in Jajpur district was arrested on Tuesday on the charges of raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl at a village under Balichandrapur police station .
The survivor is a close relative of the accused, police said. The minor girl was found to be in an advanced stage of pregnancy, a doctor who examined her said.
The girl’s mother lodged an FIR in Balichandrapur police station on Monday and alleged in her complaint that her minor daughter was raped multiple times by Puria Dehuri, a neighbour, for the past six months as a result she became pregnant.
Acting on the FIR, police swung into action and launched investigation and registered a case against the accused, said the IIC of Balichandrapur police station Sukant Patra.
“Both had hidden their relationship. When the minor girl told the accused Dehuri about her pregnancy, he threatened her not to reveal his identity as her unborn child’s father. It was only after her mother noticed body changes that she suspected that her daughter was pregnant. By then, she was in an advanced stage of pregnancy,” added the police officer.
The girl was medically examined by doctors of the district headquarters hospital at Jajpur on Tuesday, a police officer said.
An ultrasound test and diagnosis at the hospital revealed that she is six-month pregnant .
The accused was produced in a court at Jajpur on Tuesday.
The court rejected his bail application and remanded him in jail custody, added the police officer.
