Odisha man kills wife and son, tries to end life

A man allegedly strangled his wife and son to death and later tried to kill himself by slashing his wrists, in Kalinga Vihar, here on Tuesday. Police said Abanti Bijay Mangaraj (40) was depressed having lost his job during the lockdown and suffering heavy losses in the share market.

BHUBANESWAR: A man allegedly strangled his wife and son to death and later tried to kill himself by slashing his wrists, in Kalinga Vihar, here on Tuesday. Police said Abanti Bijay Mangaraj (40) was depressed having lost his job during the lockdown and suffering heavy losses in the share market.
Police arrested Mangaraj from the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is said to be stable. The bodies of his wife and son, Swarnalata (35) and Jitu (10), were recovered from their home.
“Mangaraj was in a deep financial crisis. He lost his job during lockdown this year. He tried his luck in the share market but incurred heavy losses,” deputy commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash said.
