Odisha Public Service Commission invites applications for recruitment of 1,871 medical officers

BHUBANESHWAR: The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has invited applications for recruitment to 1871 posts of medical officers (assistant surgeon) in Group-A (junior branch) of the Odisha medical and health services cadre. The selected candidates will be appointed in different government hospitals across the state.
The link for online registration/re-registration and online payment of examination fees will be available on the OPSC website from November 12 to December 13. Submission of online registered applications can be done on the website from November 12 to December 20.
According to the requisition filed by the health and family welfare department, only 196 (65 for women) out of 1871 posts have been reserved for the general (unreserved) category. Similarly, 114 posts were reserved for the SEBC category, 576 posts for SC, and 985 posts for the ST category.
Apart from age relaxation for the reserved category, a candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not be above the age of 32 years as of January 1, 2021. The candidates must have possessed an MBBS or equivalent degree from a medical college or medical institution recognised by the Medical Council India.
The selection of candidates for recruitment to the posts of medical officers (assistant surgeon) will be adjudged on the basis of a written test. The written examination will consist of one paper of 200 marks (multiple choice question pattern). There shall be no negative marking for wrong answers in the three-hour-long test.
The written examination will be conducted at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Requests for a change of examination centre will not be entertained. Certificates of admission to the written examination to the eligible candidates will be uploaded in the OPSC website prior to the date of the written examination, said the OPSC sources.
“After joining of medical officers, the number of doctors will increase in the government hospitals and it will improve the patient care services in these hospitals,” said an official of the health and family welfare department.
