Odisha reports 80 new Covid-19 cases, state tally touches 1269
BHUBANESWAR: With fresh cases being reported from two tribal districts-Nabarangpur and Gajapati- Odisha on Saturday recorded 80 Covid positive cases taking the tally to 1269.
While four positives were detected in Gajapati district, a single case has been reported in Nabarangpur. One of the cases in Gajapati is from a quarantine centre (returned from Maharashtra) and three are locals while the lone case in Nabarangpur had returned from Andhra Pradesh and was put up at a quarantine centre.
Ganjam district, which has the highest active cases, reports highest 19 cases followed by 17 in Puri and 14 in Jajpur. Other districts, have reported positive cases are Cuttack and Balangir (one each), Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Sundargarh, Balasore and Jharsuguda (3 each) and Kandhamal (2). Out of the 80 cases, while 71 cases were reported from government quarantine centres, two from home quarantine and seven locals.
The death due to the virus remains at 7 even as 62 more persons were discharged from the hospital on Saturday taking the people recovered from the viral infection to 497. Ganjam has seen the highest 41 persons getting recovered followed by 15 in Balasore. One person each has recovered from Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak and Jajpur, while two have recovered from Sundargarh.
Ganjam though still tops the list of districts reporting highest Covid-19 cases, in terms of active cases, Jajpur is placed number one as the former has 135 active cases and latter has 167.
Ganjam has so far reported 341 cases followed by 239 in Jajpur and they are placed in first and second places as far as total cases are concerned. In the third and fourth spots are Balasore (128) and Bhadrak (98) districts respectively. With 74 cases, Khurda is on the fifth spot. Khurda’s total cases have a share of Bhubaneswar’s 52. Khurda recorded district (barring Bhubaneswar) had recorded the first case on May 13.
The government so far has tested more than 1.18 lakh samples with close 5,000 samples getting tested on May Friday. The data provided by the health and family welfare department revealed in Odisha more than 87 per cent Covid positive patients are males.
