Odisha: Rs 9.32 crore sanctioned for development of Hingula temple at Talcher
BHUBANESWAR: The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) board has sanctioned Rs 9.32 crore for the development of Hingula temple at Talcher in Angul district. Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan had written a letter to Coal and mines minister Pralhad Joshi on this issue.
Hingula temple at Gopalprasad in Talcher is considered one of the most sacred religious sites in the state. Patronised by the ruler of Talcher, Maa Hingula temple draws pilgrims and tourists throughout the year. Hingula Yatra is a famous festival here.
On January 13, Pradhan had written a letter to Joshi for development of the temple area. He had mentioned in the letter that MCL employees voluntarily contribute funds from their salary towards the construction of the main temple building.
The Maa Hingula Thakurani Trust Board, Gopalprasad, had submitted a proposal to the management of MCL for corporate social responsibility (CSR) project involving construction of Natya Mandapa and Jagyan Mandapa at an estimated cost of Rs 16.64 crore.
Pradhan had mentioned in the letter that these developments will not only improve the devotee facilities and experience at the temple but also boost tourist footfalls in the region.
“Considering the spiritual and socio-cultural importance of Maa Hingula Temple to the people of Odisha, I seek your personal intervention in directing concerned officials of MCL for a favourable and expeditious consideration of the CSR project given by the temple trust,” stated the minister in the letter in January.
While replying to Pradhan’s letter, Joshi said MCL board has approved sanction of Rs 9.32 crore under their CSR fund for construction of certain facilities at Gopalprasad for benefit of the local population in general and for providing impetus to tourism in the area in particular.
