BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government on Tuesday announced summer holidays for higher education institutions from May 5. Higher education department secretary Saswat Mishra, in a letter to all the vice-chancellors of state public universities and principals of all government and non-government degree colleges, informed that the vacation will last till May 31.
The government has allowed conducting interviews for PhD courses and other research scholars on scheduled dates during the vacation. However, online classes and exams shall not be held during this period, the notification stated.
Teachers, meanwhile, questioned the delay in announcing summer vacation for schools. Teachers in government schools are still going to school on roster duty and for admission while those in private schools have been taking online classes.
“One from my family members tested positive and is in home isolation. I have to take care of him even as lockdown has been imposed from Wednesday. In such a situation going to school is a huge problem. I am wondering why the government is not announcing summer vacation for schools yet,” said Sasmita Sahu, a primary school teacher.
