Odisha: Teachers oppose govt’s home visit plan
BHUBANESWAR: Fearing Covid-19 infection, teachers on Monday opposed the state’s Sikhya Sampark programme in which they have to visit the homes of children in the interior areas to teach them.
“Teachers have always tried to fulfil the government’s expectations and completed all responsibilities given to them. This time also teachers are ready to visit the houses if asked to do so. But the government should also think it over if it would be right to expose teachers to the virus when it is on the rise in the state,” said Prakash Chandra Mohanty, president of Odisha Secondary School Teachers Association (OSSTA).
As a large number of students are deprived of online education due to various reasons, the government is likely to launch the programme in a week. Under this programme, the government aims to reach out to 60 lakh children through online and offline modules. Clusters and areas under each school will be divided among teachers of respective schools. They will visit the particular area twice a week and speak to the students and parents about the learning process.
They will also give homework and clear the doubts of children.
