Starting today, BMC to remove illegal vendors from city roads

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday intensified its campaign to educate street vendors to remove encroachments, stop littering roads and keep two dustbins each.
The BMC is using a public address system to sensitise people as from Monday eviction drive will start and penalty will be imposed on vendors, littering public spaces. Despite repeated warnings issued by the civic body, the vendors are not adhering to the guidelines, said a BMC source. The BMC thus decided to launch awareness campaign first and then start enforcement.
The BMC is taking littering seriously as it spends lakhs of rupees to ensure the city remains clean. The vendors had been asked to keep two dustbins — one for dry waste and the other for wet ones— for dumping conveniently.
