Triple-mutant variant: 14-day mandatory quarantine for all coming to Odisha from West Bengal

BHUBANESWAR: All persons coming to Odisha from West Bengal by any means of transportations and other mode will now have to undergo 14 days mandatory institutional or paid quarantine.
The decision has been taken after detection of new triple-mutant variant of Covid-19 in the neighbouring state, which, the experts feel, might be more infective.
“Collectors of Balasore and Mayurbhanj are directed to put border check posts (BCPs) on all inter-state roads including national highways, state roads and local roads along West Bengal border with immediate effect. The district administrations will ensure border tracking for all the major and minor entry points for incoming people from West Bengal adjoining their districts,” said chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra.
The chief secretary asked the two district administrations to make adequate police arrangements for such tracking.
To quarantine the returnees from West Bengal, the district administrations have been asked to ensure appropriate facilities and logistic supports to cluster temporary medical camps, which will be operated as per guidelines of the special relief commissioner.
The sarpanches and other panchayati raj institution (PRI) members will be mobilised to create awareness in their areas and to report to concerned BDO, local police station and other local authorities about any person coming from West Bengal, not quarantined in institutional facilities.
Similarly, all passengers coming from West Bengal alighting at Bhubaneswar/ Jharsuguda airports will also be mandatorily subjected to institutional quarantine or paid quarantine for 14 days in facilities identified by various district administrations and municipal commissioners.
If a person coming from West Bengal, who has been successfully vaccinated (two doses) and produces RT-PCR negative certificate within 48 hours of entering Odisha will be allowed for 14-days home quarantine.
“However, in case of non-compliance of the Covid protocols and home quarantine guidelines issued by the Centre and state health department, such persons shall be quarantined in institutional facility for 14 days,” said the chief secretary.
Instructions have also been issued to ensure that people travelling from West Bengal to other states through Odisha should not disembark from the vehicle en-route inside Odisha territory.
People violating the guidelines will be liable to be proceeded against in accordance with the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and other regulations issued by the state government.
