Two held for smuggling brown sugar in Khurda
BHUBANESWAR: The special task force (STF) of the state Crime Branch on Sunday arrested two persons from Tapanga area in Khurda for allegedly smuggling narcotic drugs. The STF personnel seized 262 grams of brown sugar worth about Rs 2.62 lakh from Sheikh Talim and Sheikh Asif, the accused.
The cops waylaid the duo’s bike on national highway-16 near Tapanga level crossing and seized the contraband from them. “We are trying to know the source of the drug and identify the other gang members. A case has been registered at Khurda Sadar police station for legal action and subsequent investigation,” STF deputy inspector general J N Pankaj said.
The STF has already seized more than 20.90 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 20 crore and arrested 44 drug peddlers so far this year.
