Union budget to revive Covid-ravaged economy of country, says Union minister Pratap Sarangi
BHUBANESWAR: Union minister Pratap Sarangi on Sunday said the Union Budget presented on February 1 will revive Covid-ravaged economy of the country and bring positive changes in different sectors. He dubbed the Budget a historical and revolutionary one.
While addressing the media here, Sarangi said this year’s Budget is based on six pillars. These are ‘health and well-being’, ‘physical, financial capital and infrastructure’, inclusive development for aspirational India, reinvigorating human capital, innovation along with research and development and ‘minimum government and maximum governance’.
He presented the gist of the budget and said how the Centre is trying to develop different sectors by allocating funds. Sarangi, who is the Union minister of state for MSME and animal husbandry, dairying and fisheries, gave details about the allocation to his ministries too.
He said the Centre has announced in the Budget that Paradip along with the ports of Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Petuaghat in West Bengal will be developed as modern fishing harbours. It will also develop inland fishing harbours and fish-landing centres along the banks of rivers and waterways. “Paradip will be developed as hub of economic activity under this proposal,” he added.
He said the Centre has made a provision of Rs 15,700 crore for the MSME sector in the Union Budget 2021-22. This amount is more than double the previous year. “One of the important aspects of the budget is allocation for Covid vaccination programme. Our government has allocated Rs 35,000 crore for this programme. So that the people of India can get the vaccine easily and free,” he added.
He said Odisha has received an allocation of Rs 6995.58 crore for the development of the railway sector. “This increasing allocation shows how the Centre wants to complete the pending projects in the state,” he added.
