VIMSAR Burla library complex awaits govt green light
SAMBALPUR: More than six months since a proposal for a library complex at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, was sent to the government, there is yet to be any headway regarding the project.
Official sources said the proposal for the library complex, where 1,000 people can sit and read at one time, was submitted to the government in April. The proposed library complex is supposed to be a G+5 building with a lift, cafeteria, parking space and other facilities. The estimated budget for the complex is Rs 16 crore.
Currently, the central library of VIMSAR operates from a two-storey building and it does not have adequate space. As a result students from the premier institution often face problems.
The sitting capacity of the existing library at VIMSAR, which has 1,000 undergraduate and 350 postgraduate students and 150 house surgeons, is only around 150. Hence, to provide the students as well teachers a spacious and modern library, the library complex was proposed.
Dean and principal of VIMSAR, Brajamohan Mishra said the public works department (PWD) prepared the plan and estimate of the library complex. “The library complex is highly essential for a better academic atmosphere here. Both students and teachers will benefit with the development of the library complex,” Mishra said.
President of resident doctors’ association, Sanjeeb Mishra said, the building from where library has been operating does not have adequate space. “We had our final PG examination in June, but we could not access the library at that time as it was not possible for so many students to maintain social distancing in the small library. Had there been a spacious library, such a situation would not have happened,” he said.
Sub-divisional officer, PWD, Burla, Seikh Muftar said the plan and estimate have been submitted to the directorate of medical education and training (DMET) and after approval, it was submitted to the government. “We are hopeful that the project would get the government’s nod soon,” Muftar said.
