Youth held for attack on woman in Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: The special squad of the commissionerate police on Wednesday arrested a youth on charges of attacking a woman with a knife near CRPF Square here on Monday. The accused was identified as Amar Digal, a resident of Rental Colony. Police arrested him with the help of CCTV footage. He attempted to snatch the woman’s mobile phone. When she resisted, he attacked her with a knife.
“We are interrogating him,” a senior police officer said. Anshu Gupta, the injured woman, was walking to a nearby vegetable market during lockdown relaxation hours (7am to 11am) when Digal attacked her.
This was the third such attack on Gupta in the last eight months. In the previous two incidents, her chain and cellphone had been snatched.
The police are trying to find out whether Digal was involved in the previous two cases. “We verified his antecedents. He was not arrested earlier. He is jobless and is addicted to intoxicants. He attempted the snatching to buy drugs,” the police officer said.
