Odisha reports 571 new Covid-19 cases, tally climbs to 10,624

BHUBANESWAR: Seven more Covid-19 patients died in Odisha in past 24 hours, increasing the total number of deaths of Covid patients in state to 61 even as 571 more tested positive for the virus. The number of total infected persons increased to 10,624.
While six persons, five men and one woman, died due to Covid-19, another Covid positive patient died due to comorbidities, the health department said. With this, deaths due to Covid-19 in the state rose to 48 while deaths of Covid patients from comorbidities went up to 13.
Among the six Covid deaths, three were reported from Ganjam besides one each from Bhubaneswar, Rayagada and Kendrapada. Those who died in Ganjam were two men aged 56 and 64 besides a woman (50). The 64 years old man and the woman were suffering from diabetes. The death toll in Ganjam district increased to 27.
The health department said the deceased from Rayagada was an 80 years old suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The 49-year-old man from Kendrapada had diabetes. The man from Bhubaneswar was 55 years with no other known underlying health conditions.
Another man from Khurda district, a 53-year-old HIV+ man, who had also tested positive for Covid, succumbed to HIV-AIDS.
The new positive cases were spread across 26 of the 30 districts. The highest 215 were from Ganjam. Others include Sundargarh (78), Khurda (50), Balasore (26), Balangir (21) and Cuttack (17) among others.
