10 micro contain zones in capital, one in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday created as many as 10 micro containment zones as Covid positive cases were detected from several residential complexes here amid a spurt in infections in the twin cities.
In north zone, a quarter near Sainik School was brought under containment while an apartment near Patia, Pandra near XIMB and Sailashree Vihar were declared as micro containment zones. In the southeast zone, five containment zones were created at several houses after detection of multiple cases.
“The rapid response teams (RRT) will ensure that infected people remain in home isolation. The RRTs will also monitor their health condition. Instead of brining a large area under containment, we are bringing only the infected house or apartment under containment so that infection spread is checked,” said zonal deputy commissioner (southeast) Mahendra Badhei.
In Cuttack, the city authorities had brought two areas under micro containment but one was lifted on Wednesday. “We have stepped up enforcement activities. The violators will be fined and the shops violating Covid norms will be sealed. So far, Cuttack is not reporting a huge number of cases. But in future it may witness a surge like many other areas are seeing, including the capital. We have only 30 Covid patients in the SCB Medical College and Hospital and Aswini hospital,” said Ananya Das, commissioner, Cuttack Municipal Corporation.
While Cuttack reported 65 new infections, Bhubaneswar added a huge 341 cases taking the cumulative caseload in the capital city to 1,24,454. Active cases jumped to 1,037.
