Dead cop’s name appears in transfer order, Odisha Police draw flak
BHUBANESWAR: The name of a police officer, who died last year, was figured in a transfer order on Tuesday, much to the embarrassment of the Odisha Police.
Kampal Naik, who was a subedar in Special India Reserve (SIR) battalion at Koraput, died last year owing to illness.
However, his name appeared in the transfer list of 12 police personnel, who have been given new postings in different battalions in the state.
The transfer order was issued by the state police headquarters.
The embarrassment brought to the fore the poor functioning of the personnel wing of Odisha Police and drew flak on social media platforms.
The personnel wing handles the transfer and posting related issues. An inspector general of police heads the wing.
“It was a typo. We don’t know how the blunder happened. It should have been properly scrutinised before issuance of the order. We have issued a corrigendum order after the blooper came to our notice,” a senior police officer at the headquarters told TOI.
Last month, the Odisha Police had faced a similar embarrassment when a transfer order revealed the promotion of a woman sub-inspector Rina Baxala, who was under suspension for forcing a pregnant woman to walk 3km for not wearing a helmet in Mayurbhanj district.
A red-faced state police headquarters revoked her promotion hours after she became an inspector.
