Former police chiefs appreciate Odisha’s Covid-19 fight

BHUBANESWAR: Many retired police chiefs of the state have appreciated the efforts of the Odisha government in its fight against Covid-19 and urged chief minister Naveen Patnaik to keep the morale of police personnel high as they continue to play an important role in managing the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of the virus.
In a letter addressed to Naveen, the former police chiefs including retired DGP of Odisha Sarat Chandra Misra, Amiya Bhushan Tripaty, Nimai Charan Padhi, Bipin Bihari Mishra, Suchit Das, Gopala Chandra Nanda and Manmohan Praharaj, praised the Odisha CM for his far sighted leadership and skillful handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
They have also complemented the state police for enforcing lockdown measures effectively ensuring smooth movement of emergency workers and essential goods. “The feedback from across the state and from various sections of society is heartwarming. Never before have we seen such outpouring trust and affection for the police,” they said in the letter.
Stating that the police in the state are going beyond the call of their duty, the police chiefs in their letter mentioned that the extra effort and proactiveness is one of the major reasons why Bhubaneswar has not witnessed the heart wrenching images that have emerged from other parts of the country during the lockdown period.
The former police chiefs have urged that the morale of the police force needs to be kept high since the future course of events remain unknown and they said that the police force must be well looked after to face any eventuality. The senior IPS officers have also complemented the leadership of Police DGP Abhay and twin city police commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi.
