BHUBANESWAR: Night temperature would see a gradual rise by two to three degrees Celsius in the next two days bringing relief from the cold wave in the state, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday.
The IMD forecast said there will be shallow to moderate fog over isolated places in nine districts. Thereafter, parts of the state would witness light to moderate rainfall over isolated places for two-three days from December 27, it said.
However, the cold wave continued in some pockets on Friday. Around 11 places saw night temperature plummet to below 10 degrees Celsius. Phulbani recorded the day’s lowest of 6.5 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees below the normal.
The mercury level in the city rose to 12.4 degrees Celsius, still 2.6 degrees below the normal, after a cold wave for three successive days. Jharsuguda at 8.8 degrees Celsius recorded the highest drop of 3.5 degrees below the normal.
Umashankar Das, a scientist at the regional IMD centre here, said a change in wind direction would influence a rise in minimum temperature. He said rain would occur at some places, including in coastal parts, under the influence of western disturbance. Das said the intensity of rainfall might increase on December 28. He said the minimum temperature in interior and coastal pockets saw a rise by maximum 2.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.
