Youth held for bid to foment trouble online
CUTTACK: The commissionerate police has launched investigation into an alleged online hate message against goddess Durga and detained a youth in this connection on Sunday. The accused has been identified as Raj Mallick, a resident of Cuttack.
The police got into the act following a complaint lodged by the BJP’s Cuttack unit with the Cantonment Police.
Acting on the complaint, the police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act.
DCP Prateek Singh said a handful of people in the city are trying to foment trouble in the name of religion and disturb the peace and harmony in the city. “These activities won’t be tolerated and stringent action will be taken against such culprits,” DCP Singh said.
“Stringent action will also be taken against those who are liking and sharing such offensive posts,” Singh said, adding that “Citizens are requested to maintain social harmony and peace and stay away from such lies and messages that spew hatred.”
A police team has been engaged to carry out the investigation and soon others involved with the matter would be arrested, said Singh.
